This post has been a long time coming as many of you over the past year have been asking about my Serena and Lily Blake Natural Raffia Square Coffee Table! I got it almost a year ago, so I feel like I’ve had it long enough to create a comprehensive review.
I had been looking for a raffia/grasscloth coffee table for over a year when I finally decided to order Blake’s square coffee table. When decorating our home, the two hardest things for me to find furniture for had been a coffee table and I’m still looking for a dining table 2 years later. I really loved the look of a raffia or grass coffee table and like many of you, I was skeptical that it would be good quality.
It looks as good as the day it was delivered to us. I haven’t had any issues with wear. It has held up very well. I haven’t noticed any scratches or tears in the raffia/grass and it looks good as new.

I haven’t spilled red wine on it, so I don’t know for sure. However, I have spilled a martini and water on it and it just stands up and doesn’t mess up. I was able to wipe it off with a paper towel. It has never left marks or stains. It has five layers of lacquer, so I imagine this would be the case with most liquids. In the care instructions, it just says to wipe up spills quickly with a dry cloth. It’s raffia, but the coating makes it really durable.
No!! THANK YOU HEAVEN!!!! This was my biggest complaint with my last coffee table I had. It was like a magnet for caressing hair and dust. This coffee table is like night and day compared to my last one. I dust it with a microfiber cloth like I do the rest of my furniture, but it never shows any dust or pet hair. This is probably my favorite attribute of this coffee table: it is very low maintenance. I really should be dusting my old coffee table every day, and this one I dust once a week and even then it really doesn’t need it.
I’ve had it on my to-do list for a while now. For those who don’t know why this person is asking about glass, the glass would protect the top of the table and it is common for glass to be cut to protect the top of furniture surfaces. However, I honestly don’t know if it’s necessary. I prefer not to have the glass because I really like how it looks without it. So while I thought about it, I probably won’t do it now just because it has held up so well.

This person was asking specifically because they said their kids climb all over the furniture. I don’t know if I’d necessarily let the kids crawl all over a raffia table, but I’ve sat on it and there’s no problem. It is made of hardwood. It is SOLID.
Yes, it definitely has a texture due to the raffia, but not enough to affect putting anything on its surface. However, I always use coasters on every furniture surface, no matter what it’s made of. My mother was a stickler for mountain climbing, so it’s ingrained in me. I even used coasters on my dorm room furniture in college. However, if you don’t use a coaster, it will sit just as well as any other surface. I would use one if the drink is sweating or if you have something like hot coffee or tea, just to make sure you’re protecting the surface, but the same goes for any furniture.
The Serena and Lily Blake Coffee Table is available in 3 raffia colors: Natural, Indigo and Mist. I love the natural color because it is very neutral. I have wood floors, a colorful rug, wood furniture, and a brown leather couch, so I wanted something neutral and light to brighten up the space a little and be a little less traditional. The mist wouldn’t have worked in my living room and I loved the indigo (navy blue) and it would have worked really well, but again, I wanted something to brighten things up!

It is large, but I measured to make sure it was the right size for my space. Always measure! The coffee table is 47″W x 47″D x 15.5″H. They also have a rectangular version that’s 48″W x 24″D x 15.5″H. So it has a slightly smaller footprint. They have an entire surface. ‘Blake’ collection of raffia-wrapped and lacquer-finished pieces such as a sideboard, console, bedside table, coffee table and mirror.
For us, the size is not only perfect for the space, but ideal for when we host guests. There are charcuterie tables, candles, people’s drinks and even space to play if we want!
As you can see from one of the photos above, we have large windows and lots of light inside the house every day. It’s one of the things I like most about our house. I haven’t noticed the raffia on the coffee table changing color. Again, it looks as good as the day it arrived!
