Pottery Barn Folsom Coffee Table – First project of the year – updating our newly updated living room to include built-ins. When we made the fireplace a few months ago, I hadn’t quite embraced the idea. I’m glad we waited for it to get it right, but now that it’s done, the space needs a new coffee table design. I’ve been drooling over this earthenware barn coffee table for months and know it complements our DIY console table.
We took the same approach as the 2×4 DIY console. Using only 11 2x4x12 boards, we created this beautiful, sturdy coffee table.

Cut 13 2×4 boards to the desired length and 13 boards to the desired width, making sure to account for a 45 degree angle on each end – 3 inches on each end or 6 inches total. Repeat for the second set of widths and lengths – 2 side-wide sections total, each consisting of 13 boards. Additionally, there are a total of 2 lengths, each consisting of 13 boards.
Drill together using 3″ screws, minus two on each end. For those use wood glue. Wood glue and clamp the end pieces so that the screws are not exposed.
Remove pieces and routers 1/8-1/4″ from each side and length for a smooth, seamless finish on each “board”.

Join the length and width sections at a 45-degree angle, mark down 1 inch and draw a line.
Drill 1/4″ on each board using a 3/8″ drill bit. Drill pilot holes and thread a 3″ screw into each hole.
Then, using a drop of wood glue, insert a 3/8″ dowel rod into each hole and hammer in. Hand saw off the excess and sand smooth. Repeat at the top and bottom of each side.

To complete my coffee table, I wanted a light oak color similar to the finish of a pottery barn table. I rubbed Varathane Golden Oak with a very light hand and wiped off immediately. Next, make an acrylic paint stain mixture using taupe craft paint to get a light brown wood tone and mix with a little water. Rub it on, let it sit for a minute, then wipe off.
