Lego Millennium Falcon Coffee Table

Lego Millennium Falcon Coffee Table – I needed a place to display my Lego UCS Millennium Falcon (75192) so I designed this table. The goal was to have a Falcon interior measuring 40″ x 30″ with clear acrylic sides/top for the display. I also wanted the assembly to be fairly easy. In addition, the table is customized with CNC text engraved on the legs and side. For the table you will need:

The frame is made of 6’x2”x2” pine boards. 2″ is nominal, meaning they are actually 1.5″. The boards are cut into the following parts:

Each of the 40″ and 30″ pieces has a 1/4″ slot that is centered along the entire length using a router table. The 16″ pieces have a 1/4″ slot cut on two sides of the transmitter. Make sure to connect the slotted sides to form a complete shape to hold the acrylic.

The table top is made of 3/4” pine board. I took a 6’x12″x3/4″ board and cut 2″ wide boards. They are cut as follows:

Like the frame, these boards have a 1/4-inch slot cut along the entire length using a router table. The ends are then cut at a 45 degree angle with a miter saw.

This step is optional and requires a CNC machine, Adobe Illustrator, or other software to create custom vectors. The table is customized with the name Millennium Falcon on the sides and my family names on the four legs of the table. Each is engraved with the Aurebesh or Galactic Standard. I downloaded the Basic Star Wars font here: Star Wars Font. I entered all the names into Adobe Illustrator and saved it as an outline vector. It was imported into Vectric Aspire. I then used the vector of names as a v-carve profile. A CNC machine was used to engrave the text using a v-shaped cutter set to cut 0.125″ deep.

The frame is held together by pocket hinges. I used a Kreg pocket hole jig to cut two holes on each side of the frame. Rais makes short work of drilling holes. It is important to use clamps when assembling the frame. The Kreg 90 degree clamp and pocket hole clamps really make the job easier. Make sure the screws always point into the thick part of the wood. Adding glue to the joint before fixing also helps with assembly.

Leave the top four boards of the frame for last. Push the acrylic sheets into the four slots. To assemble the frame, screw in the four top plates using pocket screws. I left the protective coating on the acrylic because I was going to stain the wood later.

The table top is assembled like a photo frame. The bottom three parts are stapled and glued together first. Then insert the acrylic sheet and staple/glue the last piece. This frame needs to be confirmed.

Now that the table is assembled, it needs to be painted. Be sure to sand off the excess glue and you’ll have a good surface. I recommend sanding with grit 60 to 220. I used Minwax Gunstock stain. I used two coats and then a spray on polyurethane finish. If you did this step, pay close attention to the V-shaped text. It takes a bit of tin to cover the engraving.

I show the final table and table with lights and the later added Cloud City landing pad. I will add another Instructable to cover the landing and adding the lights.
