Design Ideas For Coffee Tables – I’m sharing my favorite coffee table decor ideas to help you have a beautiful, functional coffee table!
I’m asking for a lot of coffee table decor! After taking a good look at the two coffee tables in our house, I realized that I needed five decors that I always use and I’m going to share those coffee table decor ideas with you today!
Design Ideas For Coffee Tables
I always use large trays on coffee tables. Always. I love how they keep everything organized, and if you want to use the coffee table for playing games or serving food, you can take it all away with a simple lift. Pillows are also a great way to add contrasting texture or color for an interesting look.
Beautiful Farmhouse Coffee Table Ideas & Designs (with Plans) For 2022
For the family room coffee table, I went with a 28″ square wooden tray that takes up most of the coffee table, but leaves room for my husband to put his feet up (we keep the designated “foot pillow” to do it that way – lol!):

I had the hardest time finding the largest square tray that I really liked, but ended up finding the best one on Etsy. The store I bought it in is no longer available, but you can find a tray that looks almost exactly the same. They are offered in a variety of colors, from velvety matte or glossy. This large tray is expensive, but I will have it for years. I love that if I change my color scheme in the future, I can paint it instead of buying a new tray.
Coffee Table Decor Ideas That Don’t Require A Home Stylist
On the ottoman/coffee table in our living room, I mostly use light woven cushions to add lightness and texture. I recently bought a good size and great price for this large tray:
FYI, don’t forget to add slats to the bottom of the woven coasters to avoid scratching the coffee table! Here are a few more favorite coffee table dishes that would work beautifully too (
I use flowers and natural elements throughout my home because nothing else adds life, so it’s no wonder one of my favorite coffee table decor ideas! When we have a ton of blooms in our yard this summer, I keep small bouquets on my coffee table:

You can add even more life and personality by placing your flowers in unique items like my copper swan planters (you can find similar planters here) and I’m obsessed with:
If you don’t have flowers growing in your yard, pick up tulips for $5 at the grocery store, or add a plant for less maintenance. This snake plant that used to be on our living room coffee table is the best – seriously incompetent:
And I love that the end of our coffee table is stacked with books—another way to bring nature into this space.
Diy Coffee Table Ideas And Designs (2022)
There’s no shame in making mistakes! I recently bought some raspberries, and two of these make the smallest arrangement:
After moving my snake plant upstairs, I used three eucalyptus branches in our living room:
You can use other natural elements to add life – a bowl of pine cones, cotton, or elements from the sea such as driftwood, shells, coral – just a few ideas. The best thing about natural elements is that there are so many on your doorstep that you can find and use for free!
What Are Some Of The Best Marble Coffee Table Ideas?
Books are another must for me. They are great for adding a sophisticated look, as well as having fun coffee table books that your family and guests can read. Since I’m a design lover, most of my (big surprise) focus is on design. Books about the area you live in, your favorite state or country to vacation in, or your favorite hobby are other great choices.
You might also want to consider getting a bunch of your photos from your phone and computer – these are future coffee table goals for me! If you want to add some color or pattern to your coffee table, a simple way is to use your favorite fabric scraps to make a fabric book:
If you’re a design lover like me and looking for good coffee table books, here are a few that have great content and look great (
Coffee Table Decorating Ideas
Along with some coffee table books, I always add a bookshelf or two. These can range from a large gold wishbone (similar to this one) to a decorative magnifying glass like the one I used in the fabric-covered book or a small piece of coral):
Decorative boxes are the best! There are so many cute options, and they’re great for clearing out things you don’t want to clutter up your desk. I need an extra TV on the coffee table in our family room, our flashlight, and photo flash drives, while I make a laptop in the sectional:
Once you’ve got these essentials in place, it’s time to have fun and add a few fun things you love! For me, it’s often copper animals (#obsessed) like this pair of copper cranes (there are similarities):

Coffee Table Decor Styling Tips And Tricks
Coffee tables come in many different sizes and shapes. Whether it’s a hard surface or something soft like a large ottoman, decorating a coffee table should be fun and reflect your personal taste. A coffee table is the centerpiece of any room, so it’s the perfect place to display your favorite things. Find a list of suggestions to get your creative juices flowing, then find easy ways to incorporate your ideas into your home decor.
Tip: If you’re buying a new coffee table, consider getting one with two tiers. This lower level doubles your surface area and can be used to store or display more of your treasures.
Before going any further, I would like to mention a set of ideas. There is absolutely no right or wrong way to design your coffee table. Follow your instincts. Use items that speak to you, items that reflect your family’s interests, and most importantly, items that reflect your personal style. I love neutral decor, so I usually use it on our coffee table…with shades of blue of course. If you’re a fan of color, incorporate this into your coffee table decor. What you’re looking for: When someone walks into your room, they should be able to tell your style just by looking at your coffee table!
How To Style A Family Friendly Coffee Table
The versatility of the plates is amazing, and they make the perfect starter for any coffee table vinaigrette. There is no hard and fast rule about what size or shape to use. It’s fine to use a round tray on a round table…and it’s also fine to use a square or rectangular tray.
Bearings are your most important layering tool. Start by placing a tray on the coffee table. Whatever you add next will have a cohesive and stylish vibe because the tray holds everything together. Stack items on top of each other and change heights.
Coffee tables and books go hand in hand. There it is
