Coffee Table With Barn Doors
The first step to assembling the table is to create the bottom shelf assembly. We used 2×4 boards for this part and used our table saw to rip the boards 3″ wide. You don’t need to rip the boards on this part, but it will change the overall dimensions, so make those changes. We made a 3/4 around all sides of the plywood panel ” pocket holes. We also added 1.5″ pockets to the ends of each long board. Attach the long sides of the panel to both sides using wood glue and 1.25″ pocket hole screws. The plywood for the bottom shelf will be flush with the upper part of the 2×4 boards.

Move to the top of the table. This is assembled in the same way as the first shelf assembly, but the depth of the plywood will change. Grab a few pieces of wood or boards that you want to use for the top. Lay them flat on the table and place the plywood over them with the pocket holes facing up. Now first attach the long boards using glue and screws with a 1.25” pocket. After attaching them, you can attach the shorter ends. These are attached using 3/4″ and 2.5″ pocket screws.
Time for legs! These are just 2×4 pieces that we cut to 12” each. Add 1.5” pocket holes to one end of each leg piece. Attach the legs to the table top using wood glue and 2.5” pocket screws. The legs with the seat are in the same plane on both sides.
Once the legs are attached, it’s time to attach the bottom shelf. Place the table top face down with the legs up. Add glue to the bottom of each leg section and place the shelf upside down on the legs. Make sure all the legs are aligned and attach them to the table with 2.5” wood screws or Spax through the base and into each leg.

The last step of construction is to put each board in place. Each one will be cut to a length of 20 inches. Attach each piece with wood glue and nails. Just make sure the length of the nails is no longer than the width of the boards and plywood combined. Once you’re done, you can paint or stain and add your hardware! Because I used pre-finished white barn wood from Porter Barn Wood, I painted the table before adding the boards. Check out these boards….
