Coffee Table Fire Pit Propane – OK, OK, I’ll admit that gas pits don’t really have a “season” per se – they’re ripe for enjoyment almost any day of the year (as long as it’s not raining outside). But autumn is an especially great time to gather around the fireplace, when your cheeks are kissed by the sun and the cold night falls. Close your eyes and imagine it: you, your friends and family, a cozy sweater, a glass of wine, and lots and lots of conversations around the fire. Ahhhhh I’m calm just thinking about it.
But like most fantasies, the reality of fire pits is not as glamorous as the image in our minds. Most of us order these online assuming they will be a piece of cake to put together and within an hour of opening the box we will be disassembling with our feet warmed by the flames. But IRL, there are 10,000 parts, instructions written almost in Chinese, and you end up with a screaming match over who got the hex wrench wrong.
Coffee Table Fire Pit Propane
So we’ve checked out a host of top rated and reviewed gas pits to determine which ones not only look beautiful, but are also relatively easy to assemble and sturdy enough to give you a decade of fireside chats. Why did we go the gas route? Mainly because, while versatile, wood burning pits involve more work on our part (carrying logs! changing logs!) – and don’t even get me started on the smoke.

So here’s a selection of the best bets you can make when purchasing a fire pit this fall, and why.
First, this table is a beauty and sure to be the standout element in your outdoor space. (And if you already have an espresso-colored resin wicker patio set, it will complement these pieces perfectly!) Second, it’s a powerhouse, conveniently hiding a five-gallon propane tank (not included) inside the table, providing up to 16 hours of smoke-free flame. Third, the assembly was probably a 2 out of 10 in terms of difficulty – it took less than an hour to build, and the instructions were surprisingly clear and easy to understand. The end result is a stable and super luxurious fire feature that will elevate your backyard experience. Bonus: For a little extra drama, consider purchasing the glass wind fence to keep the flame at bay (or keep the kids’ hands out) and add even more flair to the table.
If you like the look of logs, but don’t want the hassle of the aforementioned smoke, then this is the pit for you. With its rustic slate and marble top, this “fire bowl” blows a strong, steady flame out through lava rocks and faux logs, heating approximately 150 square feet of space—perfect for a small patio or poolside area. All in all, assembly takes about a couple of hours and you have to rely on instructions that mostly consist of pictures, which means you really have to focus. But the result is a beautifully made table that is the exact opposite of flimsy. Note: The pit top is particularly heavy and heats up quickly, so you’ll want to place cheese plates and wine bottles on a nearby side table instead.

Don’t want to deal with the smoke and mess of a wood burning fire feature…but also want a portable pit? Then Heininger is the option for you. Whether you’re looking to move it across the yard to get a better view of the meteor shower or you want to throw it in the back of the car for an impromptu street barbecue, this will do the trick. It is lightweight (only 22 pounds) and easy to carry considering its light dimensions. The kit comes with 10 feet of hose, so safely tuck your propane tank out of sight and away from the crowd. Bonus: the pit’s metal ring base doesn’t get hot—or burn your patio or lawn. Oh, and did we mention the price? Let’s say it’s true.
If you want to get away from the standard square or rectangular fire table, Bond’s Mondavi bowl is what you’re looking for. Rustic and modern all at once, the pit has a pulsating ignition and puts out a massive 70,000 BTUs of heat and is large enough to hold up to eight people or so. Setup is easy and shouldn’t take you more than 30 minutes—it mostly involves pulling the bowl out of the box (heads up: it’s heavy and unwieldy at 80 pounds and 36 inches wide!) and filling it with rocks. A 10-foot regulator tube is included, but as many reviewers have noted, the included lava rocks are not enough to fill the bowl, so you may want to buy an extra bag with this purchase.
Perhaps the most elegantly designed pit on our list (and the most universally compatible with your existing outdoor furniture), this aluminum pit is dual-purpose thanks to a lid that allows it to double as a table when the fire feature is not in use. We love that it hides the propane tank inside its frame and is super sturdy once assembled. (Total build time was about 2 hours.) Bonus: Cover included with purchase.

Fire pit tables have become very popular in recent years, and it’s easy to see why: they’re an attractive – and practical – addition to your outdoor space. Along with keeping you warm on chilly nights while enjoying an after-dinner drink or a dip in the hot tub, they serve as an eye-catching focal point to anchor your patio furniture. From fire tables with cozy-looking faux wicker finishes to elegant concrete tables, there are plenty of options to suit any style, whether your decor is contemporary, modern or somewhere in between.
Start by measuring your space to figure out the right dimensions for a fire table, and make sure that any model you’re eyeing has proportions that will work with your existing furniture and overall outdoor setup.
Most fire pit tables are propane fuel, and some convert to natural gas. If you have a spacious balcony to heat, look for options with 50,000 BTUs plus, or natural gas equivalent. Fire pit tables usually have a hidden compartment in the base for the propane tank (some even have separate towers for the tanks that serve as an end table or plant stand) and many double as coffee tables, with an addition to place over lava rocks. The glass spirit shields you may see in the pictures allow you to safely place a wine glass on the end of the tables, although they are almost always sold separately. While fire tables are primarily used for warmth and ambiance rather than grilling, there are some options on the market that do both.
Can I Use A Gas Fire Pit Inside?
If you plan to use your fire pit for grilling, your best bet is to buy a smokeless fire pit with a grate or other wood burning options. Finally, if you plan to put the fire table on a deck, check to make sure the table you buy is safe for use on wood surfaces, or purchase a heat barrier to place underneath it.
